Mental models, myths and metaphors—aids to visualize and simplify, add structure, impart meaning, and enable understandings of actuality, also interpret educational materials. The role of cultural and of individual mental models both presents instructional design difficulties and helps visualize intended learners as discrete tasks. Effective distance learning assesses the designer-learner distance in multiple dimensions and recognizes the individuality of instructional response.
